SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) – A group of truckers plans a “slow roll” protest in South Dakota on Thursday.
Organizer Jeremy Johnson says the demonstration will loop around Sioux Falls and continue on to Pierre. The demonstration involves a line of semi-trucks driving at reduced speed.
Johnson says the group will have a “slow roll” on Interstates 29, 229 and 90. The protest is a local response to a truckers demonstration planned in Washington, D.C.
The Argus Leader reports the goal is to protest federal legislation including proposals to limit truck speed, increase the minimum personal liability that truckers must carry, and mandate safety equipment to keep cars from sliding under trucks.
The line of trucks will drive about 50 mph within Sioux Falls city limits and drive about 60 mph outside of city limits.
