The Stanley County Commission has declared a disaster because of a massive winter storm and extremely high winds that came through last month. The Hughes County Commission approved a declaration on Monday.
Hughes and Stanley County emergency management director Rob Fines says the storm dropped nearly a foot of wet, heavy snow, followed by mild temperatures that caused rapid melting. He says much of the snow from that storm has melted and counties and townships have begun to repair damaged roads.
Stanley and Hughes County officials will now gather information about damage to public infrastructure to see if it meets the threshold to receive state or federal funding to assist with repairs.
