PIERRE, S.D. – (DRG News) The Secretary of South Dakota’s Department of Veterans Affairs says this year’s Operation Reaching All Veterans effort has been a success. 2014 was designated by the SDDVA as a time to reach out to all 75,000 South Dakota veterans. Secretary Larry Zimmerman says close to 60,000 veterans have been contacted via phone, plus outreach meetings have been held in more than 40 South Dakota counties. Zimmerman says if there are any veterans who haven’t been contacted about programs and services that are available for them; they should call the Veterans Affairs Department in Pierre or the county or tribal veteran service office in their area.
Zimmerman says there have been more than 140 open houses in many counties throughout the state this year, in which veterans were invited to visit with County and Tribal Service Officers. They have addressed questions about veterans’ benefits, including compensation, education, pensions, health care and death benefits. Zimmerman says more than one success story has resulted from the open houses held across the state this year.
Operation RAV was set up to help veterans of all ages, with disabilities and without, from all branches of the U.S. Military.
