Rev. Barbara J. Crowson 1931 – 2018

PIERRE, SD – Rev. Barbara J. Crowson, 86, of Pierre, SD, passed away July 17, 2018 at Avera-Maryhouse Long Term Care facility in Pierre. A Memorial Celebration of her life will be held on Wednesday, July 25, 2018 at 10:30a.m. at Wesley Manor Chapel at 1555 N Main Street, Frankfort, Indiana. Inurnment will follow at Rest Haven Cemetery in Lafayette, Indiana.

Rev. Barbara Jean (Smith) Crowson was born July 18, 1931 to Herbert Myron Smith, Sr. and Gladys M. (Dunning) Smith Geddes in Massachusetts. On May 17, 1949 she was united in marriage to Edward Drew Crowson in Salem Willows, Massachusetts. To this union of 65 years were born five children: Beverley, Jean, Donna, Edward Jr. and Anne.

Barbara worked as a Special Education Teacher at South Newton High School in Kentland, IN and was an Ordained Elder in the United Methodist Church, serving as Pastor in Camden/Colburn, IN; Windfall/Nevada, IN; Monroeville/East Liberty, IN; Hamilton, IN; Fort Wayne/Saint Paul, IN; Wesley Manor, Frankfort, IN; Congregational United Church of Christ, Fort Pierre, SD; First United Methodist Church, Pierre, SD; and Southeast Methodist Church, Pierre, SD. Outside of Barbara’s love of ministering to God’s people, she enjoyed reading, jigsaw puzzles, tai chi, crossword puzzles, computer games and spending time with her family that she so dearly loved.

Grateful for having shared in her life are her daughters: Beverley Wilson, Frankfort, IN, Jean Zaragoza, West Lafayette, IN, Donna Gipson, West Lafayette, IN and Anne (Tom) Plooster, Pierre, SD; grandchildren: Christopher (Mary) Wilson, Melissa (Kyle) Krathwohl, Joy (Lenny) Wagoner, Daniel Zaragoza, Edward Zaragoza, Caitlin Plooster and Drew Plooster; great-grandchildren: Cara Krathwohl, Miranda Krathwohl, Logan Krathwohl, Baylee Wilson, Christopher Zaragoza, Kaleb Zaragoza, Madalyn Zaragoza and Ivan Wagoner. Preceding her in death were her parents, grandparents, siblings Herbert, Robert and Donald, son Edward Drew Crowson, Jr. and husband Edward Drew Crowson, Sr.
