The renovation of the Boys and Girls Club of the Capital Area took another step forward last night (Tues.) with the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the club and the City of Pierre.
In February, the city commission agreed to partner with the Club by providing up to $2 million for the project at the existing building, which is owned by the city.
City finance officer Twila Hight says the entire project is budgeted at $4.4 million.
Board member Dr. Tad Perry the club serves over 600 kids each year.
The project includes the demolition of the south addition of the Club. The area that is demolished will be rebuilt to include a second story. This space will include a new kitchen, programming space and offices.
The City will have the ability to use some of the new programming space and the gym outside of the Club’s operating hours.
Last week, the city commission agreed to hire a construction manager to oversee the project. The work is scheduled to start next year with a completion date in 2020.
