RAPID CITY, S.D. – The Pierre Post 8 American Legion baseball team won twice on the road on Tuesday as the swept a doubleheader from Rapid City Post 320 in Rapid City. Post 8 won the first game 11-5 and then won the second game 12-7. In the opener, Pierre scored 4 runs in the 5th inning to take the lead and added 3 more on in the 6th. Pierre had a 15 hit attack led by Andrew Coverdale, River Iverson and Garrett Stout who all had 3 hits apeice. Gray Zabel and Andy Gordon each had 3 RBI’s apiece. Matt Lusk picked up the win on the mound going the full 7 innings allowing 10 hits and 5 runs while striking out 5. In the nightcap, Pierre scored 5 runs in the 5th inning and added 3 more in the 6th and 2 in the 7th for the doubleheader sweep. Pierre had 10 hits and took advantage of 5 Post 320 errors in the game. Coverdale and Stout both kept the hot bats with 3 hits apeice while Iverson had a 3 RBI night in the nightcap. Jack Van Camp went 6.2 innings in picking up the win allowing 7 runs and 10 hits while striking out 7. Post 8 improves to 14-8 on the season as they play across the street tonight in a scheduled doubleheader at Fitzgerald Stadium against defending state champion Rapid City Post 22. Post 22 handed Pierre a pair of 16-2 setbacks in the first meeting in Pierre earlier this month. First pitch for game 1 is scheduled for 6 pm central time tonight in Rapid City.
