PIERRE, S.D. – (DRG News) The Pierre Rural Fire Department was called overnight to the report of a smoky smell in rural Hughes County. Pierre Rural Fire Chief Jason Roggow says firefighters were summoned to Mallard Place, located just off Highway 1804 south of Spring Creek. Roggow says a resident reported the smell of smoke in the area, but could not determine its source. Roggow says fire crews patrolled the area to see if they noted an active fire, but were not able to find where the smoke odor was originating from. Firefighters were out for about thirty minutes looking for the cause and returned to the fire station early this morning.
