Pierre city officials are hearing from residents who are upset because their vehicles were ticked and moved off of emergency snow routes early Monday morning after the city issued a snow alert Sunday afternoon.
During the public comment session of last night’s (Tues.) Pierre City Commission meeting, James Bobby said he wasn’t aware the alert had been issued.
Sheridan One Feather lives in an apartment building along an emergency snow route. He says plows had gone past there when he got home from work Sunday, so he thought vehicles could be parked on the emergency snow route.
Pierre Police officers ticketed 65 vehicles yesterday (Mon.) because the vehicles weren’t moved off emergency snow routes by midnight Sunday. His vehicle wasn’t ticketed, but Pierre city commissioner Jim Mehlhaff was also frustrated by the snow removal process over the weekend.
Each ticketed vehicle was towed off the snow route and parked on a nearby non-emergency snow route. Each vehicle owner was given an $85 ticket, for a total of over $55-hundred dollars in fines.
