Pierre Man Claims $50,000 Powerball Prize

PIERRE SD – (SD Lottery) – Chris Classen of Pierre on April 19, 2017 claimed his $50,000 Powerball prize from the April 12, 2017 drawing at the Pierre Lottery office. Classen matched four of five white ball numbers and the Powerball to pick up the game’s third prize; the odds of winning $50,000 in Powerball are 1:913,129.

Classen purchased his winning ticket at Cowboy Country Store #6 on N. Euclid in Pierre. The store will receive a $1,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket. While Classen knew a $50,000 winning ticket had been sold there, he wasn’t aware that it was his ticket until he arrived at the Lottery office. A quick check of his ticket at a convenience store had resulted in a “Must claim at Lottery office” message, meaning the prize was over $100. Classen was excited to learn from the validation clerk that it was substantially higher than he’d first thought.

The Powerball jackpot sits at $90 million for the next drawing on Sat., April 22, 2017; that date also marks the 25th anniversary of the first Powerball drawing and will be the game’s 2,610th draw. (Photo: SD Lottery)
