PIERRE, S.D. – 2018 will be profitable and give exposure nationally to the cities of Pierre and Ft. PIerre with a handful of State tournaments and national events coming to central South Dakota and $2 per night fee from the largest Pierre hotels provided by the Pierre Business Improvement District No. 1 (BID). Next march the EXPO Center in Ft. Pierre will host the State High School Boys Hockey tournament thanks in part to a $85,000 contribution from the Pierre BID for the Oahe Hockey Association to refurbish the center and add extra seating. In late June and early Julya of next year the Bass Masters Elite Series will be fishing the waters around the Pierre area. A $50,000 contribution of PIerrre BID helped secure the tournament that is featured on ESPN2 and B.A.S.S. Times magazine. And in late July next year, Hyde Stadium will host the State American Legion Championship Baseball tournament thanks to a $250,000 contribution for the refurbishment of Hyde Stadium. That $2 million dollar renovation also helped Pierre land a team in the Expedition League Summer Collegiate Wood Bat league that will begin play in 2018 with teams from South and North Dakota as well as Wyoming, Nebraska and Canada coming to play in Pierre. The Pierre BID has also dedicated over $100,000 per year for advertising, marketing and sponsorships of athletic, recreation and other events that bring people and money to the Pierre-Ft. Pierre area.
