The 2019 Fort Pierre Christmas Tree Lighting Friday (Nov. 22) night drew a crowd of over 200 people and the Chili/Soup Cook-off was attended by over 100.
The large crowd was due in part to the participation of the Stanley County School kids under the direction of Tina England, singing a group of traditional Christmas Carols. The role of Santa was played by Stanley County Superintendent, Daniel Hoey.
Stanley County students sang as the lead-up to the lighting of the tree, nicknamed “Pudge.” Ronda Sweetman of Pierre donated the tree for the second year in a row.
The winner of Best Chili was Shad Ludemann and First National Bank. The Best Soup winner was, once again, Reggie Nelson of Sioux Nation.
Best Western Wear was won by 9-year-old Maddie Stoeser, who won a $25 gift certificate for Total Beauty.
Best Business Lighting Decorations this year went to Chase Auto & RV and Best Home Lighting Decorations was won by James Walti. He received a $25 gift certificate for Dakotamart in Fort Pierre.
DRG’s Prime Time Paul and part-timer Zach Deal provided festive music for the afternoon via the Dakota Cruiser.
