Missouri River/Lake Sharpe Clean Up Wednesday, July 12

PIERRE/FORT PIERRE SD – The annual Missouri River/Lake Sharpe Clean Up Wednesday, July 12 from 5-8 PM. Paul Lepisto and Bret Afdahl spoke with KGFX Morning Show Host Scott Lane about the event.

The event, based out of Down’s Marina in Pierre will see volunteers, in boats and on land, pick up litter and debris along the river and bring it back to Down’s Marina for proper disposal by the City of Pierre. Since 2009 over 16.5 tons of trash has been collected from Lake Sharpe. This event is an opportunity for people to give something back to a resource that means so much to the quality of life in central South Dakota.

Event Co-Organizer Paul Lepisto says that the clean-up is a partnership between the Central South Dakota Chapter of Walleyes Unlimited, the Izaak Walton League, South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the cities of Pierre and Fort Pierre and many area businesses and organizations.
