Lyman and Sully Buttes Both Lose During Day 2 of State B Girls Basketball


HURON, S.D. – Sully Buttes qwest for a State B Girls Basketball Tournament title ended Friday night in Huron as they were defeated by Warner 50-31 in a semi final game of the tournament. Warner grabbed the lead early in the game and Sully Buttes could not reover. Remi Weintjes had 9 points to pace the Chargers who shot just 23 percent from the field (10-43) and hit only 1 3-point basket in 17 tries. Maranda Ristau led Warner with 16 as the Lady Monarchs avenged a regular season loss to the Chargers and will look to repeat as State Class B champions when they play Sanborn Central-Woonsocketfor the State title tonight. Sully Buttes will play the third place game at 6 pm against Hanson.
HURON, S.D. – The Lyman Raiders lost their second game of the State B Girls Basketball Tournament Friday afternoon when they were defeated by Kimball-White Lake 42-28 in a consolation semi final game. The game was close at halftime with the Raiders trailing only by 6 at 22-16 but Lyman’s offensive woes stung them in the second half as they were outscored 20 to 12. Chelsey Garnos had 8 points for the Raiders in the game that saw them shoot just 21 percent from the field (9-42) and just 13 percent from 3-point range (2-15). Jazmine Hinker led Kimball-White Lake with 17 points. Lyman will play Gayville-Volin for 7th place at noon at the State B in Huron. Kimball-White Lake will face Lemmon in the consolation championship game.
