PIERRE, SD – Lanny Blake, 68, of Pierre, died Saturday, December 15 at Avera Maryhouse. Visitation will be 5-7pm, Tuesday, December 18 at Isburg Funeral Chapel with a prayer service at 7:00pm. Services will be 1:30pm, Wednesday, December 19 at Faith Lutheran Church with burial at Scotty Philip Cemetery

Lanny Ray Blake was born August 31, 1950 in Miller, SD to Delton and Mabel (Harvey) Blake. The family lived in Ree Heights, SD and later moved to Ft. Pierre, SD where Lanny attended fourth through sixth grade. They then moved to Pierre with Lanny graduating from TF Riggs High School in 1968. He then attended South Dakota State University, Brookings, SD, graduating in December of 1972 with a Wildlife Biology Major.
Lanny returned to Pierre and began working for Snappy Delivery. In the spring of 1976, Lanny began a career with the US Post Office working first as a clerk and then as a letter carrier, retiring on December 31, 2011.
On September 18, 1976, Lanny and Sheryl Titze were united in marriage at Faith Lutheran Church, Pierre, SD. To this union two children were born, Anthony “Tony” and Therese. After retirement, Lanny and Sheryl enjoyed traveling to Mexico during the winter.
Lanny enjoyed bowling, fastpitch softball, golf, and attending his children’s activities. Lanny was a handyman and always willing to help with major remodel or building projects for family. Lanny was a member of Faith Lutheran Church where he served on the Board of Trustees and was a member of the Building Committee for the new sanctuary.
Lanny is survived by his wife, Sheryl, son, Tony (Mackenzie) and daughter, Therese (Dustin) Schutz all of Pierre. Upon retirement, Lanny began the new and cherished role as Papa to his four grandchildren, Landry and Lily Blake and Adeline and Colton Schutz. He is also survived by his siblings: Vicki (Chuck) Nafus, Gene (Paula) Blake and Melda (Jeff) Bolton along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Delton and Mabel, and in-laws, Calvin and Ruth Titze, along with grandparents and numerous aunts and uncles.
