PIERRE, SD – Kathleen “Kathy” Fischer of Pierre, South Dakota, passed away on Monday, May 20th at Avera Maryhouse after a very courageous battle with cancer. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Kathy was born on March 29th to Casper and Katherine Fischer. She grew up in Eagle Butte, South Dakota, and graduated high school there. She worked in Pierre at the post office, MDU, and for the City of Pierre before retiring. Her favorite job of all was being a Mom, Nama, and Mana to her children and grandchildren.
Kathy had many interests including: gardening, fishing, art, shuffle bowling, mushroom hunting, shopping, and spending time with family and friends. She was a wonderful friend, mother, and grandmother who taught her family the importance of time spent together. Kathy enjoyed spending time in her garden the most with endless days spent canning and trying out new recipes for pickles or pizza sauce but never sharing her recipes for fear you wouldn’t come see her. She was always the life of the party and would get her second wind just when everyone else was ready to call it a night. She loved the rain. If it was raining you can guarantee you would find her outside walking or dancing in it!
She is survived by her daughters and son: Nancy (Steve) Hiller, Bonnie Olson, and Andrew Olson (special friend Marta); grandchildren: Brandon (Kira), Maranda (special friend Kalin), Ashlee, and Cheza; and one great grandchild: Ember all of Pierre. She is also survived by her partner in life: Stephan Diez of Pierre; her brothers: Raymond Fischer of Hudson, SD, Andy Fischer of Eagle Butte, SD, and Leo Fischer of Bridgeview, SD; her sister: Frances Webb of Faulkton, SD; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her daughter: Angela; great grandson: Mavryck; sister: Agnes, brothers: Jimmy, Eddie, Willie, Jack, and Tony; and parents: Casper and Katherine Fischer.
Memorials can be made to Countryside Hospice, 800 East Dakota Ave, Pierre, SD 57501
