Harrold Man Sentenced for Assault Charges in Federal Court

PIERRE, S.D. – (DRG News) A Harrold man pleaded guilty in federal court to Simple Assault and Assault by Striking, Beating and Wounding and was sentenced on the charges last week.  38-year-old Thomas Morgan received a sentence of six months in prison on each count to be served consecutively-for a total sentence of 12 months.  He was also ordered to pay restitution and a special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.  Morgan’s charges were the result of an incident that occurred in August of 2012 when several people ended up at Morgan’s home after a disagreement.  Additional arguments ensued and Morgan got into his car and hit a person with his vehicle.  The victim hit the hood of Morgan’s car but was not seriously injured.  After last week’s sentencing hearing, Morgan was turned over to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service.
