RAPID CITY, S.D. – The Pierre Governors went 1 and 2 over the weekend the State Class AA boy basketball tournament that wrapped up Saturday in Rapid City. The Governors finished 4th losing 67-31 Saturday to Sioux Falls Lincoln in the third place game. the Gov’s opened the tournament with a thrilling double overtime 76-75 win over Rapid City Stevens as Peyton Zabel scored a layup at the buzzer for the game winner. But on Friday the Governor offense struggled scoring just 8 points in the first half against Aberdeen Central in a 58-52 setback in the semi finals. Pierre trailed by 25 early in the third period but 32 poin 4th quarter saw the Govs cut the lead to 3 on 3 different occasions late in the game but it was as close as they would get. Then on Saturday the bottom fell out as Lincoln cruised to the 36 point victory. Zabel led the Govs with 59 points on the tournament and senior Brad Dean scored 50 point over the 3 game as the Governors end their season with a 1-12 record.
