HURON, S.D. – The Pierre Governor and Lady Governor track and field teams wrapped up the regular season competing at the Mark Wendeglass Invitational Track and Field meet in Huron. It was the last chance for athletes to qualify for next week’s State High School Track and Field meet. The Lady Governors had some good performances led by MaKenzie Rath who won the Discus with a toss of 117-11. She alos was third in the Shot Put. Emily Mikkelsen and Sophia Stueven finished 3rd and 4th in the 400 meter dash. Hannah Schafer was 4th in the 800 meters and 5th in the 1600 meters. Addy Eisenbeisz led a Lady Governor High Jump effort that finished 3rd through 6th. Sophia Bullard was second in the Pole Vault with a school record tying 10-03 vault. The Lady Govs had 90 points to finish 4th in the 6 team meet. Brookings won the Girls team title with a 144.60.
The Governor boys got a 4th place finish from Frank Becker on the track in the 400 meters. Caleb Lusk was second in the 800 meter run Vincente Ramirez was third in the 100 meters. Nate Zimmerman had a couple of second place finishes in the 100 and 300 meter hurdles and the Governors 4×400 meter relay tam had a 4th place finish. Thomas Pietz finsihed 3rd in the Pole Vault while Warrant Gerreau was 4th in the Triple Jump and 5th in the Long Jump. Jack Maher and Levi Stoltenberg were 4th and 5th in the Shot Put and Stoltenberg and Maher were 3rd and 4th in the Discus.
