PIERRE, S.D. – The Pierre Governors hope of repeating as State Class AA champions came to an abrupt halt Thursday afternoon as they were beaten by Sioux Falls Washington 63-50 in the opening round of the State Class AA basketball tournament. Pierre shot just 30 percent from the field and were 7 of 25 from 3 point range while Washington shot 51 percent from the field as they led most of the game. Sophomores Erin Severyn and Brevin Kaiser led the Governors in scoring with Severyn netting 16 points and Kaiser 12 in the losing effort. Brett Stanley had 26 to pace Washington who plays Sioux Falls Lincoln in the semi finals Friday night. The Governors will face Huron in a consolation semi final game at 1 pm central time on Friday.
