PIERRE, S.D. – The Pierre Governor girls tennis team picked up their 2nd and third wins of the season on Saturday at the Huron quadrangular in Huron. The Govs started the day with a win over Brookings by a 7-2 score. Governor head coach Jessica Carr said that the highlights from that game being flight #6 singles Gracie Zeeb coming back from a 1-6 deficit to win 10-6, as well as all three doubles teams sweeping their opponents and winning doubles matches. The Govs then dropped a match against Watertown 8-1, with the lone win coming in at Flight #2 doubles Kara Weiss & Sydney Tedrow playing a consistent and smart game winning 10-2. The final dual of the day against Huron resulted in a 5-4 win for Pierre, with the games being split 4-4 and Flight #3 doubles Jocelyn Corrales & Caitlin Ott giving Pierre the overall win for the dual with their win 10-3. The Governor girls have won 3 matches on the season and 3 of their last 4. The Pierre JV’s will have a quadrangular meet with Aberdeen Central, Huron and Rapid City Stevens tomorrow (Tuesday) at the Griffin Park Courts in Pierre. The Pierre Varsity girls will travel to Aberdeen on Saturday for the Elliot Extravaganza tennis tournament.
