SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Pierre Governor Tennis team sits in 10th place after day 1 of the State High School Tennis Tournament in Sioux Falls. The Governors scored 181 points but have no singles left unbeaten and only one doubles team still unbeaten after the first day. Sioux Falls Lincoln has 390 to take the first day lead. Sioux Falls Washington is second at 362 and Rapid City Stevens is third 358. Number 1 singles player Kaden Hight was seeded third going into the tournament but lost his second match of the day to Elliot Hartwig of Sioux Falls Washington 3-6, 6-1, 12-10 and will now play in the consolation semi finals on Friday. The only unbeaten doubles team is the number 1 doubles team of Hight and Francesco Zago who won their first match of the day and were suspended due to darkness at match point against the Sioux Falls Washington doubles squad. That match will be picked up today. The second day of the tournament promises to see rain in the Sioux Falls area throughout the day and officials are planning to move the matches inside if need be.
