Fire Breaks Out in Big Rig Parked at Vivian Business Wednesday

KENNEBEC, S.D. – (DRG News) A fire in a semi truck parked at a Vivian truck stop yesterday caused damage to the big rig.  Lyman County Sheriff Steve Manger says the fire was reported just after seven Wednesday morning in a semi truck parked at the Coffee Cup.  The truck was parked about eight to ten feet from diesel pumps at the business.  People at the scene used fire extinguishers on the blaze and when the Vivian Fire Department arrived, they were able to put the fire out quickly.  The truck’s driver had been inside the business when the fire broke out and was not injured, however a dog that was in the cab was going to be taken to a vet to be treated for smoke inhalation.  It’s believed the fire was electrical in nature and the interior of the cab was badly damaged.  The flatbed trailer it was pulling was not damaged.  The truck had been hauling pipe to Bismarck, North Dakota.
