The forecast shows highs at or slightly below zero in the central part of South Dakota for the next few days.
Dr. Rebecca Whitlock is an associate veterinarian at Dakota Veterinary Clinic in Miller. She says for livestock outdoors, clean, dry bedding will help them get through the cold snap.
She says be sure all of the animals are eating.
Whitlock says also be sure the animals have access to clean, fresh water.
Whitlock says allowing outdoor cats and dogs into the house to keep warm may not be the best idea.
Whitlock says extra bedding goes a long way toward helping outdoor dogs and cats stay warm.
