Doris Jean Harrowa was born June 18, 1937 in Pierre, SD to James and Velma Harrowa. She finished her education in Pierre, SD, graduating from Riggs High School. On June 17, 1954 she married Merlyn (Bub) Myers at the United Methodist Church in Pierre. They were a devoted couple for well over sixty years. They raised one daughter Marles. Doris worked at the Piggly Wiggly grocery store then started her career working for the State of South Dakota Bureau of Administration. She later transferred to the Department of Transportation where she retired after 36 years of service. Doris was known for always helping out wherever she was needed whether it was handling the mail, working in reproduction, or delivering mail. Doris will be remembered for starting the DOT Bowling Tournament and keeping it going from many years. She could talk anyone into bowling and having fun.
Doris loved being a wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother – she enjoyed every minute with family and doing things with them. Doris will be remembered for her kindness, laughter, warmth and willingness to help others. She could often be found volunteering her time taking veterans to medical appointments at Ft. Meade in the D.A.V. van, keeping score for bowling tournaments, babysitting nieces and nephews or picking up grocery for someone. She loved the game of bowling and taught many to play and have fun doing so. Doris loved to travel, camp with friends, and meet new people. To all who had the fortune to know her, Doris was a cherished friend and a beautiful lady. She will be missed.
Grateful for having shared in her life are her husband Merlyn (Bub) Myers of Breckenridge, MN, daughter Marles Wieczorek of Wahpeton, ND, granddaughter Louisa (Tim) Dion and their children Lola and Piper all of Hutchinson, MN, and one bother Jack Harrowa of NV. Doris was preceded in death by her parents, brothers and sisters, and son-in-law Dan Wieczorek.
Doris’s family wishes to thank all of the health care providers at Avera-Maryhouse and St. Francis Nursing Home and Hospice for their compassion and dedicated care.
