Dancing with the Stars Comes to Fort Pierre Tonight


FORT PIERRE, S.D. – (DRG News) Tonight brings the sixth annual “Dancing with the Stars” event to Fort Pierre.  The evening is held as Capital Area United Way’s annual Thank You Dinner and Recognition Celebration-according to Gloria Hanson, Executive Director for United Way.  Doors open at the Community and Youth Involved Center at 5:00 p.m. and a spaghetti dinner will be served at 5:30 p.m.  Admission is not charged, but those attending are encouraged to make a free-will donation for the meal and beverages.  After the meal, there will be an awards and recognition program.  The highlight of the evening will be the dance competition, which will be emceed by Lucas Lentsch.

This year’s “Dancing with the Stars” will start with a performance by “The Village People” which is made up of Bob Jeffries and Doctors Ken Bartholomew, Phil Meyer, Rob Allison, Rod Vizcarra, Dave Lonbakken and Phil Hoffsten.

Nina Pease and Riggs High Dancers

Jennifer Kanz and Butch Davis

Elizabeth Zanin and Taylor Brock

Michaela Stroup and Mike Stroup

Annie Hanson and Caleb McKinley

Halli Holden and John Rounds.

This year’s judges are Elton Blemaster, Scott Isburg and Brad Curtis.  People who attend tonight are asked to bring some cash or a check to “vote” for their favorite dance team.  Two prizes will be awarded-one will be given based on the amount of money raised by the dance team’s supporters and the other award, which is new, is called “The People’s Choice” award and will be determined by a popular vote of the attendees.

Special entertainment tonight will be provided by the Pierre Dance Academy and Moriah Wagner.

All proceeds raised tonight will benefit the Capital Area United Way and the 21 local agencies which receive United Way funding.  Last week, the United Way announced that its had met is $500,000 goal.
