ST. LOUIS South Dakota State’s Taryn Christion and Cade Johnson are among the final weekly Missouri Valley Football Conference award recipients after helping lead the Jackrabbits to a 31-28 victory over in-state rival South Dakota in the Nov. 18 regular season finale. Christion was honored as MVFC Offensive Player of the Week after completing 23-of-36 passes for 299 yards and three touchdowns as the Jackrabbits improved to 9-2 and earned the No. 5 seed in the upcoming Football Championship Subdivision playoffs. Christion tied the SDSU record for career touchdown passes with 65, equaling the mark previously set by Austin Sumner from 2011-14. Johnson racked up 124 all-purpose yards with a touchdown en route to being named MVFC Newcomer of the Week. He returned four kickoffs for 85 yards (21.3 average with long of 34 yards) and caught three passes for 39 yards, including his 17-yard touchdown that proved to be the decisive score.
