Stand Up to Child Abuse 5K Run/Walk will be Saturday, April 28, 2018 in Pierre.
Registration at 8:30am, race at 9am. The race will start at the SD Discovery Center in Pierre. The course will be out-and-back along the river from Steamboat Park to Griffin Park.
The Stand Up to Child Abuse 5K Run/Walk is organized by the Avera St. Mary’s Central SD Child Assessment Center to raise awareness for child abuse prevention. Families, including children, are encouraged to attend. All proceeds will benefit child abuse prevention efforts. Come join us rain or shine and help us fight child abuse by raising awareness in our community!

The City of Pierre will host its second public informational meeting about a proposed $35 million water treatment plant April 23 at 5:30pm at Northridge Plaza.
The meeting is a chance for residents to learn more about the proposed facility and ask questions about it.
Pierre’s water service is supplied by groundwater that is produced from a series of local wells. Additional information about the proposed plant, its financial impact and the 2017 Drinking Water Report can all be found online at cityofpierre.org.

Art Show 2018 Press Release
The 43rd Annual Mobridge Art Show is scheduled for April 7 – 8, 2018. Peg Wunder, spokesperson, stated that Sam Coleman, professional artist from Bismarck, North Dakota, and Nydia Preszler, photography professor at Northern State University in Aberdeen, South Dakota will be judging all amateur work that is entered in the show. Both are well qaualified and have judged the show in the past.
Applications are available at A. H Brown Library, Leonard Studio, and Sitting Bull College or by going online to Mobridge.org and then to the Chamber of Commerce and clicking on 2018 Art Show. The deadline for entries is March 17, 2018.
To continue to expand the arts in Mobridge the City Administrator, Christine Goldsmith, has instituted a program, Art Bridge, giving artists and photographers the change to display work at City Hall for a limited period of time. This year the application will contain a line where entrants can check if they would like to participate in this program. Goldsmith will contact those who are interested in participating.

For the third consecutive year, the Office of Highway Safety and the South Dakota Broadcasters Association are hosting “Lesson Learned SD,” a program focused on youth driving safety.
Teens, ages 14-19, can go to the website and take a safe driving quiz. The participants are then entered into a drawing for a $10-thousand prize. The winning student also gets another $10-thousand to give to school organizations of their choice.

The registration deadline for summer 2018 SDSU Extension Master Gardener training classes is May 19.
The 2018 Master Gardener training class will cover botany, plant care and identification, soils, vegetable and fruit production, weed management, composting, integrated pest management, working as a Master Gardener and much more.
The hands-on training sites for 2018 are Huron, Pierre and Rapid City. Participants may attend any of the three sites; the topics presented each week will be repeated in all three sites that week.
All classes will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. local time.
The training dates are:
Pierre: (Wednesdays) June 6, 13, 20, 27; July 11, 18, 25 and August 1.
