The Dakota Western Heritage Festival announces that advance tickets are now on sale for The Cowboy Concert, which will be at the Expo Center in Fort Pierre on September 16th starting at 7:30pm.
The headliner is Country Music Legend Suzy Bogguss, opening the Cowboy Concert will be Cowboy Musician Susie Knight and R.P. Smith, Cowboy Poet.
Advance tickets are just $25 each and are available at the following locations: Lynn’s Dakotamart (Pierre & Fort Pierre), First Dakota National Bank (Pierre & Blunt), Prairie Pages in downtown Pierre, State Farm Insurance – Gary Heintz, Bad River Furniture in Fort Pierre, Total Beauty in Fort Pierre, Dakota Prairie Bank in Fort Pierre.
Tickets are limited to just 600 seats. If any tickets remain, they will be sold at the door for $35 each.

The Pierre Area Running Club will be holding it’s 3rd annual Fall Classic on September 30th in Pierre. There will be a 5K, a 10-Mile, and a 10-Mile team relay races run. The races begin at the Griffin Park Tennis courts and continues east onto the beautiful and historic Lewis & Clark Trail. All races begin at 9:00 am. League play will last six weeks beginning on Tuesday, September 5, followed by a league tournament. All games will be played on Tuesday nights at the Pierre Sports Complex on South Buchanan Avenue.

A HuntSAFE class has been scheduled at the Izaak Walton League Clubhouse in southeast Pierre. Classes will be held from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on August 14, 15, 17 and from 8:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on August 19 at the Oahe Downstream Shooting Complex. Attendance is required at all sessions. All young people between the ages of 12 and 16, as well as those who will turn 12 by Dec. 31 and who will hunt during the current year after Sept. 1 are required to successfully complete a HuntSAFE class and possess a HuntSAFE card while hunting.
Parents are encouraged to attend with their children. People wishing to brush up on their safe hunting skills are also encouraged to attend. HuntSAFE classes are sponsored by S.D. Game, Fish and Parks Department as well as local community sponsors.

Early Childhood Screenings are scheduled as a part of Pierre School District/Oahe Child Development Center, for resident children who are from Birth to Five (0-5) years of age. The Jones County Crop Improvement Association and SDSU Extension will host the 29th Annual Winter Wheat meeting at Draper, August 24, 2017. The event will be held in the Draper City Auditorium and will begin at 6 p.m. (CDT). Registration is not required. A meal is served prior to the program and is sponsored by numerous area businesses.
Speakers for the 2017 event include; Chris Graham, SDSU Extension Agronomist from Rapid City, who will discuss the 2017 SDSU Winter Wheat Variety Trial results and other ongoing wheat research in South Dakota. Stan Boltz, Soil Health Specialist with the NRCS in Huron, who will share tips on how to best manage saline affected areas.
