Bruce Travis Bear Eagle Jr. was born on July 24, 1974 to Cecelia Maure Curley and Bruce Andrew Bear Eagle Sr. at I.H.S. in Eagle Butte. They lived in peace and harmony at the homestead of Jr’s great grandparents in Iron Lightning, SD. In 1978, the whole family moved to Rapid City and then onto Albuquerque. He completed his general education in Albuquerque. When he was younger, he dabbled in baseball like his big brother, Juice. When he got older, he became a Certified Security Officer with AKAL Security, where he did many jobs as security for concerts and such. While he lived in Albuquerque, he met Sophia Riggs and to this relationship their daughter, Erin Bear Eagle, was born.
In 1991, Jr moved back to South Dakota with his family. They lived in Iron Lightning, and then they moved into Eagle Butte, where he made best lifetime friends with Terry Collins Jr. These two were so close, as they were both Juniors. They named each other Dumb and Dumber to distinguish who was who. You had to be around these two characters to understand the names. Jr is the Godfather to Terry Jr’s oldest daughter Wicahpi Win Collins “Star” as she is called.
Jr grew up loving music, which turned him into a self-proclaimed drummer, following in his father Bruce’s footsteps, as he was very musically inclined. His heart was open to everyone, he had absolutely no ill feelings toward anyone.
In 1992, he met Mary Little Star and later they married and divorced, but never left each other’s side. To this union, two daughters were born, Angel Leigh and Jessica Rose. He had one grandson from Angel, Adrian, whom he adored. His life was full of love with his gingerbread girls – Angel, Jessica and Emily.
He is survived by his sisters, Lee Maria Little Wounded and Lonna Rose Chavez; brothers, Justin Bruce Bear Eagle and Chip Lavern Baumeister; lifelong partner, Mary; daughter, Angel; aunts: Amelia, Rose, Melissa, Joan, Linda Curley, Nancy and Renee West; uncles: Keith, Junior, Danny, Myron Curley, Dave West and Loren Curley; nieces: Emily Hollow Horn and Tristan Little Wounded, Marissa, Justine and Talonna Bear Eagle; nephews: Collins Willie, Veldon Jr. and Charles Hollow Horn, Noah Little Wounded and Justin Bear Eagle Jr.
He is preceded in death by his daughter, Jessica Rose; mother, Cecelia Maure; father, Bruce Travis; step-father, Juan Jojola; and all his grandparents, both maternal and paternal.
Luce Funeral Chapel of Eagle Butte has been entrusted with Bruce’s arrangements. (www.familyfuneralhome.net)
