PIERRE, S.D. – (DRG News) After hearing revenue and expense projections for the coming year last Tuesday, Pierre City Commissioners are going to start the process of refining the 2015 budget. Pierre Mayor Laurie Gill says city staff started a few months ago to lay out spending estimates for the various city departments.
Gill says right now, Pierre is looking at a budget deficit of $1.4 million dollars-which is the smallest deficit the city has seen early on in its annual budgetary process.
Gill says in the coming weeks at the Tuesday meetings, commissioners will hear budget presentations from different departments and outside agencies seeking city funds. Gill says the annual budget work is a public process and is done in a transparent manner-allowing city residents to offer input.
Gill says state statute requires municipalities to have their budgets in place by the end of September.
