MITCHELL, S.D. – The Plankinton Bankers advanced to the second round of the State Class B Amateur Baseball tournament by recording a 10-4 win over Beresford Thursday afternoon at the State B tournament in Mitchell.  Billy Hamilton had 3 of Plankinton’s 17 hits on the game.  Plankinton put the game away with a 7 run 8th inning.  Travis Gant picked up the win going the distance allowing 7 hits striking out 10.  Plankinton will play Clark in the second round of the tournament Sunday night.  Clark outscored Northville 14-12 despite giving up 22 hits.  Jake Esser of Clark had 3 of the teams 15 hits and 4 RBI’s.  In the night games, Akron, Iowa shutout Milbank 7-0 as Jared Kirkeby pitched a complete game 3 hitter striking out 5.  And Wynot, Nebraska scored two runs in the 6th inning and made them stand as Wynot edged Lennox 2-1.  Scott Morrison went the distance striking out 9 outdueling Jare Hegdahl of Lennox who also went the distance allowing 8 hits and striking out 6.

Four more first round games are scheduled for today at the State Class B Amateur Baseball tournament in Mitchell.  Irene faces Madison in the first game of the day that begins at 11 am followed at 1 pm by between Dimock-Emery and Larchwood, Iowa.  Tonight at 5:30 pm Harrisburg and Garretson play each other and the final game of the third day of the State B tournament at 7:30 pm has the Parkston Mudcats facing Redfield Dairy Queen.  Four more games are scheduled for tomorrow and two on Sunday to conclude the first round of the State B tournament.  Wessinton Springs faces Lake Norden and Corsica Stickney takes on Crofton tomorrow beginning at 11 am.  At 5:30 pm Chamberlain will face the Redfield Pheasants followed by Avon going against defending state champion Alexandria.  The final two first round games on Sunday have Canova facing Platte and Miller taking on Flandreau.

RENNER, S.D. – The South Dakota State Class A amatuer baseball tournament begins this evening in Renner with two games.  The defending State A champion Renner Monarchs take on Castlewood at 5:30 pm followed at 8:00 pm by the Vermilion Red Sox taking on the Sioux Falls Saints.  The two winners and two losers will play tomorow afternoon (Saturday).  Tomorrow (Saturday) night at 5:00 pm the Rapid City A’s will face Yankton followed at 7:30 pm by a matchup between the Sioux Falls Brewers and Sioux Falls Squirrels.  The two winners and two losers will play Sunday.  The loser in the loser games will be eliminated from the tournament.  The other 6 teams will advance to the second and final weekend of the State Amateur Baseball tournament in Mitchell next weekend.
