PIERRE, S.D. – The Pierre Lady Governor soccer team put in their first practices today in preperation for the 2014 high school soccer season. This season, Pierre will be part of the South Dakota High School Activities Association sanctioned soccer program in the state. In the past, Pierre competed as a club sport. The Lady Govs first head coach Sydney Zanin, who served the past years as the club sport head coach, says there seems to be more enthsiasm among the girls for the sport than in the past.
The one thing that has not changed between the sanctioned Lady Gov soccer team and the club sport Lady Gov soccer team is the begining of the pre season workouts. Conditioning is still the emphasis according to coach Zanin.
One other change is to the program other than it is now a sanctioned high school sport is the face that the Pierre Indian Learning Center soccer fields will be the home field of the soccer program. In the past, the Hilgers Gulch Fields is where the Govs and Lady Govs played. The change in venue according to coach Zanin is a positive step.
