GETTYSBURG, S.D. – (DRG News) A section of street in Gettysburg was closed off for a time Monday as the result of a natural gas leak. The same area was later impacted by a broken water line. Potter County Emergency Manager Cheryl Sautner says a contractor was digging a sewer line for a new office building along the highway near the hospital in Gettysburg about mid-morning Monday when a gas line was ruptured. MDU was contacted to repair the break, and while waiting for that to be completed, a two block section of road along the gas leak was closed-for about 15-20 minutes. Sautner says after the gas line break was fixed, construction activity resumed. It was at that time that equipment breached a second line-a city water pipe located in the same area. Sautner says the water line break did not impact water service. City crews were called to the site to fix the second issue involving the water line.
