HURON, S.D. – Sioux Falls West broke open a tie game with an 9 run 6th inning and never looked back as they downed Pierre Post 8 12-2 on the 10 run mercy rule after 7 innings in and opening round game of the State American Legion Championship baseball tournament in Huron. Pierre scored a run in the bottom of the 4th only to see Sioux Falls match that run in the 5th. 4 of Pierre’s 5 errors in the game came in the 9 run 6th inning as West advances to tomorrow nights winners bracket game against the winner of tonight’s Huron and Brandon Valley Game. Pierre also was limited to 3 hits in the game with two coming in the bottom of the 7th inning as Sioux Falls starter Steuward Barouth struck out 10. He also had the aid of 11 hits, 3 of them from Sam Lang and 4 RBI’s from Alex Linneman who hit a grand slam home run in the 6th inning. Isaac Grode pitched into the 6th inning before surrending the first 9 runs to take the loss. Shay Reinke allowed 2 runs in 1.3 innings of relief. Pierre’s record drops to 18-23 on the season as Post 8 will play the loser of Huron and Brandon Valley tonight in an elimination game in the tournament Thursday at 1 pm.
