Johnson Names Local Family as 2014 Angels in Adoption Nominee

WASHINGTON, D.C. – (DRG News) A Pierre family has been named as a 2014 “Angels in Adoption” nominee. U.S. Senator Tim Johnson announced yesterday that he has chosen Denette and David Becker for the Angels in Adoption program. The family is being honored for their commitment to the wellbeing of orphan children. The Becker’s recently adopted two boys, ages 11 and 14, from Uganda. They also have three biological children. Their experience with the adoption process dates back to 2012 when their daughter Tanna Becker volunteered at a Ugandan orphanage during a mission trip. Her time overseas inspired the entire family to return to Uganda, where they met the two boys who are now part of their family. The “Angels in Adoption” program was set up in 1999 by the Congressional Coalition on Adoption Institute to raise awareness about the importance of adoption. David and Denette Becker, along with more than 100 others, will be honored at an awards ceremony and gala on September 16 and 17 in Washington, D.C.
