FORT PIERRE, S.D. – (DRG News) Three area fire departments responded to a wheat field fire on Sunday evening. Fort Pierre Fire Chief Rick Cronin says his firefighters were told of a fire in a wheat field about 6:15 p.m. on Sunday evening. The fire was burning in a field being combined about 42 miles west of Fort Pierre on Bad River Road. Besides Fort Pierre, units from Midland and the Four Corners Fire Department also responded to the scene. The combine was not impacted by the fire, but by the time it was put out, it had burned about 30 acres of mostly stubble-along with some wheat that was still standing. Fort Pierre Firefighters returned to the station about 9:15 p.m. Sunday night.
