PIERRE, S.D. – (DRG News) A woman is being treated for gunshot wounds following a shooting that occured early this morning north of Pierre.  Hughes County Sheriff Mike Leidholt says the Sheriff’s Office responded to a call about 4:50 a.m. this morning on Linnell Street in the Spring Creek area where it was reported a person had sustained a gunshot wound.  Leidholt says on arrival, responders found that a 47-year-old woman had sustained wounds from a gun.  The incident occured at the home of the woman’s friend-a 48-year-old male.  Leidholt says an initial investigation appears to show that the shooting was accidental in nature.  The woman was transported to Avera St. Mary’s Hospital by American Medical Response ambulance and she is being treated for wounds to her hand and shoulder.  Names of those involved in this morning’s incident are not being released at this time.  Leidholt says besides the Hughes County Sheriff’s Office and AMR, other agencies that helped at the scene were the Pierre Police Department, Sully County Sheriff’s Office, and South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation.
