PIERRE, S.D. – (DRG News) Mid-September will once again bring another Dakota Western Heritage Festival to Fort Pierre and Pierre. With less than two months to go before the September 12-14 event, organizers have put together another solid list of entertainers, demonstrators and exhibitors. Gary Heintz, who is one of the organizers for the festival, says this year the festival is being noted locally as one of the events that is part of South Dakota’s 125th anniversary. Heintz says festival volunteers were pleased that the city of Fort Pierre is stepping up to assist with the 2014 event.
Heintz says the festival has always been headquartered in Fort Pierre at the Expo Center and the community is a very fitting place to recognize the history of the west.
Heintz says each year, enthusiasm builds prior to the fall event-which is held in part to celebrate Western traditions and lifestyles through poetry and music.
This year’s schedule includes a September 12 Cowboy Music Jam at Pierre Music; Saturday, September 13 brings freedom stage performances and daily demonstrations to the Expo Center in Fort Pierre and that evening at Pierre’s Grand Opera House-there will be a concert featuring Yvonne Hollenbeck, Bonnie Krogman, Jean Prescott and Kevin Davis. Sunday’s schedule features a cowboy church and more appearances by cowboy poets and musicians; along with western art and crafts exhibits and vendors at the Expo. There is a charge for the September 13 concert, but the other activities are free. For more information, visit https://www.facebook.com/DakotaWesternHeritageFestival
