PIERRE, S.D. – (DRG News) A Pierre motorcyclist was hurt in a collision with an SUV this morning. South Dakota Highway Patrol Trooper Michael Dale says the accident was reported at the intersection of Highland and Sioux Avenues in Pierre about 5:50 a.m. this morning. Dale says a 1997 GMC Jimmy driven by a Pierre female was southbound and making a left turn from Highland to go east on Sioux when the motorcyclist-who was westbound on Sioux-hit the vehicle. The motorcycle ran into the rear driver’s side of the GMC Jimmy. The man on the motorcycle was taken by ambulance to Avera St. Mary’s Hospital to be treated for serious non-life threatening injuries. The female in the GMC was not hurt. Dale says fuel from the motorcycle spilled onto the road surface but was cleaned up by a local towing company. Charges are pending against the motorcyclist-including Failure to Obey a Traffic Control Signal and No Motorcycle Endorsement. The Highway Patrol, Pierre Police Department, and American Medical Response ambulance responded to this morning’s crash.
