SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) – Democratic candidate for governor Susan Wismer has named former state lawmaker and nurse Susy Blake as her running mate.
Wismer is a state representative and says she and Blake worked well together in the Legislature. She says Blake has been an advocate for many of the issues she supports.
Blake represented a Sioux Falls district from 2008-2012 before choosing not to run for re-election in 2012. She says she thought she was done with politics and would have said no to anyone but Wismer.
Blake says Wismer is a thinker and Blake is “kind of passionate.”
Wismer and Blake will face Republican Gov. Dennis Daugaard and Lt. Gov. Matt Michels in November.
Wismer in June beat out former state Wildland Fire Division head Joe Lowe for the Democratic nomination.
