PIERRE, S.D. (AP) – An employee of an Army Corps of Engineers office near Pierre says he has been denied promotions because he is black.
The Capital Journal reports that John Newell has filed complaints with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, saying he has been denied advancement because of his race and in retaliation for earlier complaints about alleged racial discrimination and a hostile work environment.
Newell says he is the only black person in the office.
The Corps of Engineers says it does not comment on pending legal matters.
