SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) – South Dakota residents are heading to the polls to pare down a crowded list of Republican candidates for U.S. Senate and choose both parties’ nominees for governor.
Former Gov. Mike Rounds, state Sen. Larry Rhoden, state Rep. Stace Nelson, attorney and Army Reserves Maj. Jason Ravnsborg  and physician Annette Bosworth are seeking the GOP nomination for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by retiring Democrat Tim Johnson.
A winner Tuesday with at least 35 percent of the vote earns the nomination. Otherwise, a runoff between the winner and second-place finisher will be scheduled.
In the race for the governor, Gov. Dennis Daugaard faces former state Rep. Lora Hubbel in the Republican primary. Former state wildfire agency head Joe Lowe and state Rep. Susan Wismer are seeking the Democratic nomination.
