PIERRE, S.D. – (DRG News) A fire in a vehicle parked in a lot along North Euclid Avenue this morning left the car a total loss. Pierre Fire Chief Ian Paul says the fire was reported about 8:45 a.m. this morning in an early 2000′s model Buick Regal parked in a lot behind the South Dakota High School Activities Association building at 804 North Euclid Avenue. He says the fire originated in the engine compartment of the car and did not get into the vehicle’s interior; however it left the car a total loss with damages estimated by Paul at $5,000. The fire did not threaten any other vehicles or buildings. The cause of the fire is undetermined, however Paul says it was likely caused by a malfunction in the engine. Paul says the vehicle had been parked in the lot about ten minutes before the fire was discovered.
