ABERDEEN, S.D. – Former Northern State men’s basketball coach Don Meyer died Sunday morning at home in Aberdeen according to his wife Carmen Meyer. Meyer was 69. During Meyer’s career he ammassed 973 career coaching victories at 3 different schools, the last being Northern State. Meyer has had basketball courts named after him , including the court in the Barentt Center at Northern State, has been inducted into many halls of fame and has won numerous national honors including the Jimmy V Award for Perseverance ESPY, the John Wooden Keys to Life Award and the Naismith’s Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame’s John Bunn Lifetime Achievement Award. A movie based on Meyer’s life is in pre-production, with filming expected to begin this summer. Funeral arrangments for Meyer are pending.
