PIERRE, S.D. – (DRG News) Today was supposed to be the date for a motion hearing in the case of Braiden McCahren, a 17-year-old Pierre teen charged in the December 2012 shooting death of another teen. McCahren has pleaded not guilty to First Degree Murder, Attempted First Degree Murder and Aggravated Assault. Earlier this month, a judge ruled that the location for the trial would be moved from Pierre to Winner. The trial was set to begin June 2. This morning, court officials indicated that a morning’s motion hearing that was to be today had been cancelled and a continuance had been granted for the trial. A new trial date has not been set.
McCahren now has two new defense attorneys-Sioux Falls lawyers Michael Butler and Clint Sargent. They have replaced Brad Schreiber of Pierre and Bill Taylor of Sioux Falls in handling McCahren’s case.
McCahren is charged with the shooting death of 16-year-old Dalton Williams in McCahren’s home. It’s also alleged that he pointed a weapon at another teenage boy before the shooting-which occured December 18, 2012.
