PIERRE, S.D. – (DRG News) South Dakota Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution is celebrating its 100th annual State Conference today and tomorrow in Pierre. “Patriotic” is the theme for this year’s conference. South Dakota has nine DAR chapters. James Pollock will speak to the group at a banquet this evening to discuss his experiences as a soldier artist. Tomorrow morning, former First Lady Pat Miller will welcome delegates and Pierre’s River Harmony Women’s Barbershop Chorus will perform at a noon luncheon tomorrow. Daughters of the American Revolution is a women’s service organization founded in 1890. Any woman 18 or over who can prove lineal descent from a Patriot of the American Revolution can be a member. The national group’s members volunteer to help veteran patients; plus they award scholarships and financial aid to students and support schools for underserved children. The two day conference is being hosted by Pierre based Spirit of the Prairie Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution.
