MILLER, S.D. – The Pierre Governor and Lady Governor Track and Field team competed in a 4 team meet in Miller on Tuesday. The Lady Govs had another steller day on the track with Cortney Dowling leading the way. Dowling won the 800 meter run in a time of 2:31.11 as Pierre finished 1-2-4-5-6 in the race. Eileen Leong won the 200 meters in a time of :27.56. Kelsey Schmitz captured the 400 meters in a time of 1:03.37 finishing ahead of Leong. Emily Mikkelsen of the Lady Govs won the Girls 1600 meter run in a time of 5:53.73. Tess Johnson led a 1-2-3 Lady Gov finish in the 100 meter hurdles winning in a time of :15.67. Katie Berg won the 300 meter hurdles in a time of :49.92 as the Lady Govs had a 1-2-3-4 finish. And the Lady Govs 4×800 meter relay team won in a time of 10:58.43 while the 4×400 meter relay team won in a time of 4:16.57. In the field events, the Lady Govs dominated as well. Torri Thorpe won the High Jump with a leap of 4’7″. McKenna Halvorson won the Triple Jump going 33 feet even. And Sydney Palmer won both the Discus and Shot Put with a toss of 37’7.75″ in the Discus and 113″08″ in the Shot. The Governor boys also had a very good day on the track led by Shay Rienke who won the 200 meters in a time of :24.14 as the Governors had the top 7 finishers in the race. Kahler Fiala won the 400 meters in a time of :56.28. Wyatt Rumrill won the 800 meters in a time of 2:10.34. Jamaal Covey was a two time winner on the track winning the 110 and 300 meter hurdles. Covey won the 110 hurdles in a time of :16.26 and the 300 hurdles in a time of :43.60. In the relays the Govs won the 4×100 and 4×400 and 4×800 relays. Travis Barton won the High Jump clearing 5’8″ and the Triple Jump with a leap of 39’02″. Matt Green captured the Long Jump clearing 18’02.50. And Graham Protexter won the Shot Put with a toss of 47’06″. The meet featured Pierre, Miller, Sully Buttes, Huron and Winner. Thursday’s Rapid City Track O Rama has been postponed and rescheduled for next Tuesday which is the Govs and Lady Govs next meet.
