PIERRE, S.D. – (DRG News) The Pierre School Board okay’ed issuing $10 million dollars in capital outlay certificates for construction of the district’s new elementary school project. The action is one of several steps that have to be taken to start the process moving forward to build the school in northeast Pierre.
Earlier this month, the board approved bids for various elements of the project. Last week, board members turned down a few other bid estimates. Superintendent Dr. Kelly Glodt says those bids exceeded what the board expected to spend; so new bids are being sought and will be opened later this month.
Glodt says despite the fact that the board is waiting until April 28 to look over the new set of bids; work can continue on other portions of the project.
Glodt says it’s still expected that the new elementary building will be open in time for the 2015-2016 school year.
The new school will be located west of the Truck Route on property north of Beck Motors and Goodwill-along a street that will be called Brookstone Loop.
