SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) – A Huron native has given the state fairgrounds a quarter of the amount needed to build a new 4-H exhibit hall.

The South Dakota State Fair Foundation on Tuesday announced that Earl Nordby has donated $1 million toward the $4 million project.

The proposed 47,000-square-foot hall will feature multiple classrooms, a large kitchen for 4-H special food competitions, year-round concessions and a performance stage.

The old Clover Hall at the fairgrounds in Huron was built in the 1950s. It has been demolished to make way for the new building.

Jerome Hertel is the state fair’s manager. He says the effort has raised more than $2.2 million.

Hertel says he expects construction to begin in the spring of 2015 and the project should be finished by the end of the summer.
