Pierre Swim Team Has Annual Awards Banquet

PIERRE, S.D. – The Pierre Swim Team held their annual banquet Sunday at the Fort Pierre Community Youth Involved Center.   Coach Kent Huckins recognized over 20 swimmers who achieved a USA Swimming “A” time or better in 115 events collectively. He also recognized the several high school students who lettered during this past season.  The highest award was the Swimmer of the Year Award which was presented to Ashley Theobold and Wyatt Rumrill.

Awards presented:

Rooster award (the swimmers who attended the most early morning practices)

Porter Jones, Ashley Theobald, Burkelee Kenefick-Aschoff, Cassie Axtell, Sarah Haberman, Renee  Gallagher

Green Group (youngest):

Each of the swimmers received a participation medal.

White Group (elementary school):

Most Improved: Mason Ward-Zeller, AJ Holland, Jastyn Frederick, Kourtney Walti

Hardest Worker: Ellie Simpson, Adisyn Grey, Sydney Tedrow, Trevor Rounds

Coach’s Award: Deni Zeeb, Michele Weiss, Savannah Shrake, Spencer Skjonsberg

Silver Group (middle school):

Most Improved: Sammi Axtell, Andrew Herrlein

Hardest Worker: Allycen Herrman, Canyon Jones

Coach’s Award: Morkeia Mutchelknaus, Nick Loe, Canyon Jones, Rylee Youngberg

Black Group (high school):

Most Improved: Marlee Dravland, Evan Rumrill

Hardest Worker: Wyatt Rumrill, Sydney Theobald

Coach’s Award: Madison Hyde, Chris Rumrill, Dmitri Mutchelknaus, Allison Meintsma


Swimmers Choice:

The swimmers vote for who they see as a role model, admire, or see as a leader.  Chris Rumrill received this award this year


Coach’s Choice:

This award is new this year and was created to recognize a swimmer who exhibits great sportsmanship, character, teamwork, and dedication. Annabelle Simpson was the recipient of this award.


Swimmer of the Year:

The recipients of this award encompass a positive attitude, work ethic, performance, and leadership. Ashley Theobald and Wyatt Rumrill were the recipients this year.
