Capitals End Season with Loss to Brookings

BROOKINGS, S.D. – The Pierre-Ft. Pierre Capitals varsity boys hockey season came to an end Sunday with a 4th place finish at the State High School Varsity hockey tournament.  Pierre-Ft. Pierre dropped a 7-4 verdict to Brookings in the 3rd place game of the tournament.  The Capitals scored 3 goals in the second and 1 in the third period.  In between, Brookings scored 1 in the first, 2 in the second and 4 goals in the third period.  Riley Bren scored a pair of first period goals for the Capitals along with a goal from Bo Atkins.  Atkins added another goal late in the third period.  Brookings outshot the Capitals 30-22 in the game and goaltender Alex Meagher made 23 saves in the game.  On Saturday, the Capitals were shutout by Sioux Falls 6-0 sending them to the 3rd place game Sunday.

Alex Meagher earned first team All State honors it was announced after the tournament ended.  Landon Badger was a second team All State pick.  Jon Albright earned Academic All State honors and senior Cash Anderson was the big winner in the post season awards.  Anderson was named the Hobey Baker Character Award winner along with a first team All State and Academic All State honors.  Anderson also was the recipient the Sam Tronnes Scholarship Award.
